The Datacentres

The data centres we use have been designed and built to an exceptionally high specification. They feature world class resilient infrastructure, including multiple levels of 24/7 security, redundant high-capacity power supplies, VESDA fire protection, and generator backup.

Facility 1: Building F25 (Kent Science Park)

  • Power Distribution
Power Distribution to N+1. Continual power is provided to customer equipment from the N+1 UPS units and an automated mains changeover. In the event of a power failure the UPS units have 15 minutes runtime and hold the critical load. This gives plenty of time for the changeover system to automatically switch to the onsite diesel generators which have the capacity to both recharge the UPS batteries whilst also powering customer equipment.

  • Air Handling & Conditioning
To ensure optimum performance, both data floors are maintained at a constant 21°C ± 2°C and relative humidity is kept at 45% ± 10%. Both are continually monitored via the electronic building management system. The Denco air conditioning system is built to N+1 specification. 2x Air Conditioning units are required in Suite A so 3 are installed. The system also features air filtration to keep the environment dust-free. The system operates using a hot-isle/cold-isle layout to ensure optimum cooling.

  • Fire Protection
Building F25 features an active air-sampling fire detection system from VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus). VESDA has a series of pumping stations and a web of pipework under the floor and above the ceiling, continually testing air samples for the first signs of combustion. This combined with traditional smoke detection as sophisticated IR imaging provides fire alerts while burning is still contained to a single device. The system automatically controls the NOVEC 1230 fire suppression system, a non-conductive and non-corrosive flooding gas which can extinguish fire without damage or interruption to customer servers or plant equipment. The system automatically alerts the 24x7 security gatehouse and local fire service in the event of any alarm condition (pre-alarm and gas discharge).

  • Security
The F25 facility is located within the razor-wire fenced Kent Science Park campus. The campus is protected by a 24x7 security patrol and manned gatehouse. The facility is in turn protected by its own CoTAG access system which logs all personnel entering the facility and only provides access to valid perimeter tag holders. In the unlikely event of a security breach the CoTAG system can automatically alert the 24x7 security gatehouse and on-call staff.

Facility 2: Building 810 (Kent Science Park)

  • Power Distribution
Power Distribution to N+N. Building 810 is built to the higher N+N specification. Power is continually supplied to customer equipment from two separate power distribution systems, both with their own mains incommer's, UPS stacks, changeover systems and backup diesel generators. Each system operates in the same way as the N+1 system in F25, however by having two systems (Dual Redundancy) we can offer even higher service guarantees. Building 810 is the optimal choice for customers hosting extremely mission critical services.

  • Air Handling & Conditioning
To ensure optimum performance, both data floors are maintained at a constant 21°C ± 2°C and relative humidity is kept at 45% ± 10%. Both are continually monitored via the electronic building management system. The Denco air conditioning system in building 810 benefits from the N+N infrastructure present and takes its power feeds from both systems simultaneously.

  • Fire Protection
Building 810 features the same active air-sampling fire detection system from VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) as used in Building F25 (see above) but with the additional benefit the system is powered from both power systems present in this facility. Building 810 also uses the same NOVEC 1230 flooding suppression gas, a non-conductive and non-corrosive flooding gas which can extinguish fire without damage or interruption to customer servers or plant equipment.

  • Security
The Building 810 facility is also located within the razor-wire fenced Kent Science Park campus. The campus is protected by a 24x7 security patrol and manned gatehouse. The facility is in turn protected by its own CoTAG access system which logs all personnel entering the facility and only provides access to valid perimeter tag holders. In additional Building 810 features a biometric anti-tailgating access pod to prevent multiple personnel entering using the same card, and to prevent the use of a card assigned to another person. Building 810 also takes a photo of each person passing through the access pod.
